On a beautiful Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., the Howard H. Rohde American Legion post #888 Color Guard presented the American Flag. Faith Bas sang the National Anthem. Our instructional division was ready to play ball as Mayor Sherwin threw out the traditional first pitch of the 2014 season. Also, team sponsors, Rick Riesterer, Paul Straube and Rich Grochowski came out to watch their teams play and throw out the game’s first pitch.

Northlake’s very own Olympic Gold Medalist, Brody Roybal, was our special guest and we were honored to have him throw out the first pitch for the start of the Bronco division game. Hopefully there are many more gold medals in the future for this world-class athlete.

For the fifth year in a row, A Moon Jump 4U, located at 5109 W. Lake St., donated a bouncy house for the players to jump around in after their games were over. Kathy and Madison Criss were our face painters.

Everything was going great, right on schedule and then half way through the 2:00 p.m. game the temperature dropped about 20 degrees and continued to decline until the last pitch at 7:00 p.m. At least it didn’t rain. I would like to thank all the Northlake Baseball Board Members who worked all or part of the day to make it a success as well as all the team managers and coaches who put in so much time and effort to teach baseball and softball to the players.
