In 1957, the Voelker family moved into their home in Northlake. Sometime later, they planted a blue spruce, which eventually grew to be 63 feet tall. This year, the tree was donated to the City of Chicago for its annual Christmas Tree. This tree was selected from 130 entries. City representatives, about 100 residents of Northlake and every TV station located in Chicago, came to watch the 10,000 pound tree being cut down and placed on a flatbed to be transported to Millennium Park on Michigan and Washington. The City will decorate the tree and turn on the lights on November 24 at 6:00 p.m.
Darlene Sherwin, Mayor Jeffrey T. Sherwin and the Voelker family attend the event.
