It’s a fact, mosquitoes develop in water. Over 40 different species of mosquitoes occur within Illinois. They need water to develop in their early life stages, and hatch within 3 to 5 days.

Here is what you can do.

  1. Throw away all trash that can hold water.
  2. Clean rain gutters and downspouts to prevent water from standing.
  3. Change water in bird baths, wading pools, etc. once a week.
  4. Screen rain barrels with 16 mesh screen.
  5. Clean out and fill tree holes.
  6. Stack pails, barrels, tubs and similar items upside down.
  7. Eliminate any place where water can stand.
