ComEd has notified the City that they will be replacing the existing sodium vapor lighting (the light with the orange glow) to more efficient LED lighting starting in May. This affects the lights on the wooden ComEd poles. The City owned lights on the aluminum poles were already upgraded to LED a few years ago. The ComEd lights will have a similar type of light. This will increase efficiency and also lessen maintenance as there are no ballasts to contend with and the life time of an LED is at least 10 years. There are approximately 657 of these fixtures throughout the City.
