On May 9, 2014, Mayor Jeffrey T. Sherwin received the Donald E. Stephens Award of Excellence from Richard F. Pellegrino, Executive Director of the West Central Municipal Conference (WCMC) and the West Cook County Solid Waste Agency and Arlene Jerzierny, President of West Central Municipal Conference. The dinner and award presentations were held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

Mayor Sherwin has been involved in many committees and organizations over the years, bringing his experiences and knowledge to his job as mayor. The Mayor was chosen for this award, in part, due to the following committees and councils he has participated in.

Bringing together Addison Creek River Conservancy District, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and City of Northlake for dam removal, wetland restoration, project for Addison Creek (currently in planning stage)

Secured construction of Posphalla Park with joint effort of Veteran’s Park District, School District #87 and the City of Northlake and Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Secured construction of Friendship Park with joint effort of Memorial Park District, School District #87 and the City of Northlake and Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Worked with City of Chicago, other area municipalities to discuss funding and approval for O’Hare Airport modernization, including several lobbying trips to Washington, D.C.

Worked with City of Elmhurst, ITHSA and North Central Council of Mayors to secure and design funding for North Avenue ramp from I-294.
