Northlake
is very proud of our large senior citizen
community. The City has a Senior Citizen Commission which meets the 3rd
Wednesday of every month. The City of Northlake provides our seniors with
a free dial-a-ride bus that picks them up at their door and drives them anywhere in
Northlake they wish to go. In addition, the City provides seniors with a
summer grass cutting program and a winter snow removal program. The City
will cut grass and remove snow after a 2" snow fall for a nominal fee.
Call City Hall for more information at (708) 343-8700.
Northlake
has several Senior Citizen clubs and organizations including:
- Westdale Senior Citizens Club
- The Live It Up Club

Seniors - Beware of Scams
Beware
of con artists who may try to take advantage of uninformed residents and the
elderly. Be wary of anyone knocking on your door identifying themselves as
utility workers, tree trimmers, driveway sealers, roofers or offering other
types of repair work. These unscrupulous people may try to scare you into
thinking there is a serious problem that needs repair when their goal is to
steal money either by charging exorbitant amounts for inferior or nonexistent
work, or by gaining access to the home and finding cash or valuables inside.
How to protect yourself.
The only way to stop these criminals is with the help of alert and
involved citizens. Here’s what to do...
- Never hide large amounts of cash in your
home. These professional thieves can find it anywhere you hide it.
- Never hire someone to do unsolicited work
in or around your home. Reputable contractors don’t sell their services
door-to-door. If someone comes to your door claiming to be a contractor or
City worker, ask for identification. If they refuse, call 9-1-1.
- Never let a stranger into your home. If
the person tries to push his/her way in, call 9-1-1.
- If you see suspicious activity, or a
strange vehicle cruising your neighborhood or parked in your neighbor’s
driveway, call 9-1-1.
Also - Beware of Phone
Scams
Please be aware that neither the
Northlake Police Department nor the Northlake Fire Department call for
donations. So if someone calls claiming to be from Northlake’s
Police or Fire Department asking for donations, they are falsely identifying
themselves.
