Homeland Security Threat Level Guidelines - Northlake Police Department
Recommended Actions
Threat Level: GREEN | BLUE | YELLOW | ORANGE | RED
RED - SEVERE THREAT
A threat assessment
indicates a severe risk of terrorist attacks. Under most circumstances, the protective Measures for a Severe Condition
are not intended to be sustained for substantial periods of time.
In addition to the
Protective Measures taken in the previous Threat Condition and the functional-specific actions taken below:
- Restrict facility access to essential personnel only; and
- Increase or redirect personnel to address critical emergency needs; and
- Prepare for contingency procedures, to include moving to an alternate site.

| Continue or introduce all measures listed in Conditions
GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW and ORANGE advisories. |
| Ensure adequate staff coverage at critical facilities. |
| Be prepared to work at an alternative site or with a
dispersed workforce. |
| Place all emergency management and specialized response teams
on alert status. |
| Be prepared for disruptions of normal activity. |
| Place a security officer at the reception desk at all
critical facilities until the threat level has diminished. |
| Implement nighttime security patrols at all critical
facilities until the threat level has diminished. |
| Evacuate locations in affected areas if instructed by
government officials and release non-critical function employees. |
| Search all vehicles and their contents before allowing
entrance to critical facilities. |
| Where possible, park all vehicles a minimum of 300 feet
away from critical facilities. |
| Control access and implement positive identification of
all personnel. |
| Restrict access to mail rooms and use extreme caution
in handling mail and incoming packages. |
| Cancel all travel and special events. |
| Listen to radio/TV for current information or
instructions. |
