Homeland Security Threat Level Guidelines - Northlake Police Department Recommended Actions

Threat Level:   GREEN | BLUE | YELLOW | ORANGE | RED

ORANGE - HIGH THREAT

A threat assessment that indicates a high risk of terrorist attacks.

In addition to the Protective Measures taken in the previous Threat Condition and the functional-specific actions taken below:

  1. Increase surveillance of critical locations, equipment and inventory;
  2. Coordinate security efforts with Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies; and
  3. Notify security of any suspicious or unusual activity.

Recommended Action:
Continue or introduce all measures listed in Conditions GREEN, BLUE and YELLOW advisories.
Maintain heightened awareness of people and vehicles. Be alert to suspicious activity and report it to a supervisor or the security department. Consider notifying local law enforcement.
Ensure fuel tanks on emergency generators are full.
Increase the frequency of backups of critical information systems and verify availability of technical support.
Visually inspect visitors and randomly inspect their suitcases, parcels and other containers.
Use special handling for all incoming mail and packages.
Check and replenish inventories of critical supplies and re-order if necessary.
Conduct daily inspections of the interior and exterior of buildings for suspicious packages.
Move vehicles and objects (trash containers, crates, etc.) away from buildings.
Review call-back procedures for key emergency staff and consider emergency staffing options.
Implement appropriate security measures at cleared facilities and other high-risk facilities.
Be prepared for disruptions and delays of normal activities.
Limit visitors to essential activity only. Escort visitors and monitor visitors at all times.
Where possible, park all vehicles a minimum of 100 feet away from key facilities.
Exercise caution when traveling.
Limit access points of critical facilities to essential personnel. Strictly enforce entry control procedures.
Implement random security patrols around critical facilities to check vehicles, people and buildings.
Take additional precautions at special events.
Review all plans related to the anticipation of a higher threat level. Implement as appropriate.
