CORRECTED MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE HELD ON DECEMBER 13, 2006
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT APPROXIMATELY 5:46 P.M.
PRESENT: CHAIRMAN STORCK ALDERMAN GROCHOWSKI ALDERMAN PATTI
ABSENT: ALDERMAN DUNNE ALDERMAN REISTERER
ALSO PRESENT: CHIEF KOLETSOS
Chairman Storck presented the minutes of the November 9, 2006 meeting. Alderman Patti made a motion to accept the minutes of the November 9, 2006 meeting; seconded by Alderman Grochowski. Chairman Storck called for a voice vote. All were in favor. The minutes were approved.
Under Unfinished Business; Chairman Storck brought up the dog bite ordinance. Alderman Patti said that we need to make sure that the language is updated to include the muzzle part. Chairman Storck said that the muzzles have been ordered and will be ready for court. Alderman Grochowski asked if a design was made for the window sign. Chairman Storck said the sign will be orange with a picture of a dog on it. Alderman Patti said the idea of the muzzle is the best way to go since another tag will not be visible. As soon as Chairman Storck gets the ordinance he will put it in everyone’s mailbox and it can be approved at the next council meeting.
Alderman Patti talked about the tents. She said that some people have taken the flaps off, but they left the steel structure up. She thought the whole thing had to come down. According to the ordinance the whole structure, including the poles needs to come down.
Chairman Storck asked about the stop signs at Grant Park. Alderman Grochowski said that they are going to leave it the way it is through winter. There is not a problem plowing.
Chief Grochowski asked about a parade permit. Chairman Storck said that we will enforce a parade permit. An ordinance needs to be written. Alderman Patti asked the chief about any sex offenders obtaining a permit and he said they cannot obtain one because they are not allowed around children.
Under New Business; Alderman Patti brought up the school zone signs on Wolf Road. She has noticed that on Fullerton Avenue and Wolf and Fullerton it says end of school zone, but there is not a sign on Wolf Road near Diversey that says start of school zone. Chief Koletsos said he knows about this and it on his desk and will be taken care of.
Alderman Patti talked about donating discarded cell phones. The cell phone is dedicated to only 911 calls and would be good for seniors. Chief Koletsos said he is aware of this program and Alderman Patti asked if we could look in to this. Chief Koletsos said that he would.
There being no further business, Alderman Grochowski made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Patti. All were in favor. The motion carried.
MEETING ADJOURNED APPROXIMATELY 5:53 P.M.
Respectfully Submitted,
Joanne Floistad City Clerk
