Unfinished Business;
Under New Business; Chief Koletsos said there is not anything new on the speeding on Golfview.
Chairman Patti brought up the post office entrance and exit. Chief Koletsos passed out a memo that he sent to the postmaster indicating our concerns of safety on entering and exiting the post office. Chief Koletsos said that he has not heard from the postmaster yet. He will try to contact him again. If we still do not get a response, he will send a letter to the United States Postmaster.
Chairman Patti talked about the feral cats in the city. She said that we have a problem with stray cats running around. Chairman Patti said that Public Works should be contacted so that they can trap the cats, have them neutered and released in another area. If the cats are not tagged we do not have any way to know if they are stray or owned. Residents asked about a leash law for cats and Chairman Patti explained that the current leash law is for dogs. The resident suggested amending the current animal control ordinance. Chairman Patti said that this will be brought up at the next council meeting.
Chairman Patti brought up the subject of truck parking in residential areas. Everyone reviewed the ordinance and pictures. Chairman Patti said that there was a resident on the south side of North Avenue concerned that he has been given a lot of warning tickets for his class F box truck. Chairman Patti feels that we should leave the ordinance as is.
Alderman Riesterer agreed and said that our roads are not built to support this size truck. Chairman Patti called for a voice vote. All were in favor.
A resident addressed the committee by asking if a 4 way stop could be placed on Belle and Roy. He feels that the church traffic on Sunday morning would benefit from this. Chief Koletsos said that this needs to meet the warrant requirements and then a traffic study will have to be done. Also, there is a large van parked that seems to be obstructing the view. Alderman Riesterer said he would contact the Pastor to see if a smaller vehicle could be parked in that spot.
Alderman Riesterer asked Chief Koletsos about the traffic study on the 300 block Village. Chief Koletsos said that will be done soon.
Alderman Grochowski said that he was by St. John Vianney on Sunday morning and he feels that the parking on both sides of the street is pretty tight. Chief Koletsos said that this was discussed at a council meeting and the conclusion was not to make any changes.
Chairman Patti opened up the discussion to the public.
Jennifer Buczkiewicz, 327 Major Drive, said she is concerned about D.J.’s being hired for backyard parties. She asked if we have a noise ordinance or could one be created. Chief Koletsos said that our noise ordinance does not cover D.J.s. He also spoke to Mayor Sherwin and they discussed the possibility of making those changes. Chief Koletsos said he would research this matter and bring it up at the next Public Safety meeting.
Curt Aldinger, 44 Fullerton, spoke about the speeding on Fullerton. He said it is terrible. Cars are going down Fullerton at 45 to 50 mph. Chief Koletsos said that this matter has been looked into. It is very costly to do any reconstruction of the roadway. Chief Koletsos also said that he does not have the man power for officers to sit there all the time. Chief Koletsos said he will look into some traffic calming devices and present this back to the Public Safety Committee.
Gary Ritchy, 156 Westward Ho brought up the problem with speeding on this street. He said no one slows down on the curve. He would like a speed bump installed. He claims that cars are running through the stop signs also. Chief Koletsos said a study is being done.
Patsy Stagner, 251 Dickens asked about the installation of windows, etc. done by the City of Chicago. She asked why nothing has been done for several years. Alderman Grochowski said that some of the plans have been changed due to the construction at O’Hare.
There being no further business, Alderman Riesterer made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Grochowski. All were in favor. The motion carried.
