Basic Northlake Information
The City of Northlake operates under the mayoral form of government. The Mayor administers the day-to-day operations of the City. The legislative authority of the City is vested in an eight-member council, consisting of two aldermen from each of the four wards. The Mayor serves a four-year term and the aldermen serve staggered four-year terms.

The City of Northlake provides a full range of municipal services, including public safety (police), public works, streets and sanitation. The City owns and operates its own water system supplied by Lake Michigan water purchased through Melrose Park and the City of Chicago. Natural gas is supplied by Nicor and electricity is provided by Commonwealth Edison.

Fire Protection in Northlake is provided by the Northlake Fire Protection District or the Leyden Fire Protection District - separate taxing bodies.
